Human pain models refer to a set of methods usually conducted on healthy volunteers during which various stimuli are applied with the aim to induce pain, i.e. to activate nociceptive system. In this way, it is possible to study pain physiology and effects of a drug. A number of stimuli had been used for a long time with the goal to activate specific pain mechanisms; for example, heat, ultraviolet, electrical stimulation, cold, capsaicin,…. These models enable to study specific mechanisms of action of a drug/procedure and its efficacy on pain.
As pain is a multidimensional perception, FORENAP combines different experimental painful stimulations and carries out a multimodal evaluation to get a differentiated comprehension of the nociceptive system and its modulation under the influence of analgesics.Â
